• read to the kids... they seemed excited to see me again :) they even know my name!
the librarian is really nice, she gave a book to a second grader to give to me. the little girl's name is catherine. :)

i read "jellybeans" and "i love it when you smile", the kids really enjoyed the latter one more. i actually brought 3 books - the third being a dr.seuss one. hehe honestly, i was hoping i didnt have to read another dr.seuss, it's so hard to read!! so many tongue twister words! :p i think i set up a system with them on what books i'd read... i let them vote. i think one girl was sad that the book she wanted wasnt picked, because i could see she looked like she was going to cry!! :( but i told her that in the next two weeks, i will bring more books and we will vote again.

once i started reading "i love it when you smile", she started to become engaged in the book and the frown disappeared. :) so...i'm teaching them a little about popular vote without them knowing it. :) they used to scramble around me to get their pick, but now i think they understand that you can't clamber all over someone to get what you want...and you won't always get what you want.

*nodnod*...pleasent day, i think mrs.mitchell (the teacher there), is also starting to warm up to me. i wonder how many people have promised to do rolling readers and just didn't show up.

i had an enjoyable time too, i didn't realize this before, but when i read aloud, i get really animated and into the part. i think the kids really enjoyed that! the only problem that i haven't figured out how to work yet is how to get everyone to see the pictures in the book. perhaps i have to get everyone to sit in closer together and i'll have to lift the book up higher...

Wow! I am tired as of late! It's because I've been sleeping so late (at midnight!) and waking up at 7-7:30 am.
But, yesterday I started my own website...I'm hosted by Justhost.com and also registered my domain name through there. hehe I've already started playing around with it yesterday, trying to familiarize myself with the UI and menus. It's pretty intuitive, thank God!!! Much more user friendly than Godaddy.com which reeks of hyperlinks. Bleh. Anyway, I signed up for a year contract. The only thing I dislike about it so far is that it does get revenue from ads, so if you go to my site an initial popup does occur. Grr...I'll see about adding tags to supress it!

Also, went to the Manhattan Sand dunes with Sherman and Steven yesterday. Wow, what a hike! The first hike up was the worst, I kept losing my breath and wondered if any of my runs and training prepared me for this! I was ashamed! But the sebsequent times were so much better, I got used to it. Stopped at the 5th or 6th hike up. Ended up chit-chatting with them after, it's always very enjoyable to catch up with friends. Later on that night, I went to the gym to meet up with Mark. He's been out of CA for the past week because his father is in bad health and may pass away this week. But Mark looked glad that the whole family was able to spend time together finally. He even said, his dad even allowed them to pray for him! Exciting :) Especially since it sounds like he's a no-nonsense kind of guy and didn't like to be prayed for before. Where was I going with this...oh yeah...I was really tempted to not go to the gym, I didnt want to workout anymore and I was tired! But I remembered something about how as people who profess to love christ, we must love each other, we must help make the faith village happen. So...I went. Granted, I didn't do much but sat at a machine and listened to Mark talk, but it was really good to see he is doing okay. I ended up doing some situps and biking, but that's about all before I went home...

The night before yesterday, Timsy called me and we ended up talking on the phone till midnight. Okay, well maybe just me talking most of the time. I wanted to talk about a book I'm reading that my sister got me for my 25th birthday called, Soul Survivor, How Thirteen Unlikely Mentors Helped My Faith Survive the Church. Talked about my responses to Philip Yancey (author) writings about Martin Luther King, G.K. Chesterton, and Dr. Paul Brand.

I think I found Martin Luther King's and Dr. Paul Brand's very inspiring. I've been so ignorant!! I especially liked this quote from Dr. Brand- " The most precious possession any human being has is his spirit- his will to live, his sense of dignity, his personality. Though technically we may be concerned with tendons, bones, and nerve endsings, we must never lose sight of the person we are treating."

    Good thoughts to think on...
Well, that's probably all for today. Today is rolling readers...a few of us go over to Annalee Elementary and read to kids for 1/2 hour (their recess time). I picked kindergarteners, they are always so eager to see me. They don't even notice that I'm of a different ethicity (predominately black school). I love that about them, that they don't judge. It's a good reflection of their upbringing. Perhaps this is part of what Jesus meant that we must be childlike...

    Matthew 18:1-6(NIV)
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3 And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

I will share with you an outrageous vision. It has become more and more pressing to me the beauty of media and pictures. I was searching for more workshops to go to, and stumbled across one called, Photography for Social Impact. I want to get into that one of these days, I know the goal. For now, I need to keep practicing taking pictures and learning photoshop, my composition skills are actually not too shabby but the technicalities of getting the shots I have not mastered. I definitely prefer people shots - shots with emotions and expressions, some people prefer still life or nature...we all have our preferances. Even more so, are happy shots...that's why I like wedding shots a lot - captures people at their happiest time. I would love the capture the shot of the groom smiling at his bride when he gets the first glimpse of her as she steps into the church. LOVE that moment, I always look for it when I go to weddings!!!! :)

I have yet to purchase a mac yet. that's my first step...still. but I can now cross off on my list of resolutions - to own my own site. now I just have to populate it...
